CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT)- A Chesterfield teacher is off the job, accused of assaulting a student. Michael Harrah was arrested on January 15.

According to his Facebook page, Harrah is the band director at Matoaca Middle School.

Police arrested and charged the CCPS teacher with assaulting a juvenile male student at Matoaca Middle School on Monday, Jan. 14. Michael S. Harrah, 50, of the 12600 block of Jolly Place, was arrested without incident on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and was released on a summons pending trial.

"This is a very serious charge and the employee was removed from the school over two weeks ago," said school spokesman Shawn Smith in a statement. "The employee will not return to the school pending the disposition of the charge and the administrative process."

Police said Harrah struck an 11-year-old male student during class on Jan. 14. The student was not injured.
