Halloween Adoption Specials at Richmond Animal League

Halloween Adoption Specials at Richmond Animal League

Did you know that….

  • Black pets are consistently the last to be adopted from animal shelters?
  • There are no definitive studies showing that it is “dangerous” to adopt out black cats around Halloween?

So, we here at RAL are instead celebrating our spooky canines and felines this year! Adopt a black dog or black/orange cat during the week leading up to Halloween (Tuesday October 23 through Wednesday October 31) and receive:

  • $25 off dog adoption fees!
  • A goodie bag of (tricks and) treats for the cats! And cat adoption fees are just $10!

And, for those visitors who wear a costume when they come to visit us that week, we’ll extend our special promotion to ANY RAL pet!

Stay Cool at MRPS' "Pups by the Pool" Adoption Event

Stay Cool at MRPS' "Pups by the Pool" Adoption Event

Just in time for--slightly--cooler weather, Metro Richmond Pet Savers is holding their monthly adoption event next Saturday, July 16, at the Hull Street PetSmart. More than twenty different animal-related organizations will be in attendance, along with plenty of adoptable dogs and cats. Owned pets are welcome to come and visit, and the event is fun for the whole family! If you've been considering adopting a new pet, this is the perfect place to meet some of the area's most eligible animals. This month's event, "Pups by the Pool," will feature fun and games for the family, kiddy pools for the pets, music, food, and more.

This event runs from 11:00am to 3:00pm, and the exact address is 12264 Chattanooga Plaza, Midlothian VA, 23112.

Metro Richmond Pet Savers is a coalition of local rescue groups, government shelters, and educational organizations, who, along with PetSmart, have teamed up to reduce euthanasia rates in our community.

The Last Kitten

The Last Kitten

Regina has been at Richmond Animal League her whole life. All 10 months of it.

Regina was born last May, just as kitten season was beginning. A tiny black kitten, she watched the hustle and bustle of daily activity at RAL, observing as other pets found their forever homes. Somehow, no one ever came for Regina.

As they grew older, Regina and her littermates graduated from the lobby of RAL to the adult cat room, where she and a dozen other teenage cats had the run of the place. Again, she watched as her playmates were adopted, and once again, she remained behind.

Regina is now the youngest cat in the adult cat room. The last kitten. Maybe it’s her black coat, or her quiet personality, but she hasn’t found the right home yet.

As animals shelters across the city prepare for the tidal wave of kittens that will arrive in a few weeks as kitten season 2012 begins, Regina continues to hope that her family will come looking for her.
