Local cancer research advocacy sorority raises over $1,000

Fashions change season to season but when lives are at stake, giving to an important cause never goes out of style.  Last weekend, the Phi Beta Psi ladies and their families showed their audience just that when they took to the runway to raise money for cancer research.  “Runway to the Cure” was the ladies’ first fashion show, modeling spring lines from Dillard’s, Peebles, and Old Navy. The event drew a crowd of over 100 people, and the ladies raised over $1,000.

Metro Richmond Pet Savers Reaches Beyond Helping Animals, It Unites a Community

Metro Richmond Pet Savers Reaches Beyond Helping Animals, It Unites a Community

When it comes to looking after the welfare of animals in the community, there never seems to be enough support for the endless numbers of animals who are in need.  Homeless animals outnumber available homes, and animals die because of it.  Many local rescue groups, municipal shelters, and Richmond Animal League, a shelter that has been no-kill since its inception, are working to change that.  They have formed a unique community partnership, Metro Richmond Pet Savers, and are providing hope that euthanasia rates be dramatically reduced.

Metro Richmond Pet Savers (MRPS) brings together county shelters, humane societies and volunteers, for monthly adoptions and events. “The value of MRPS is unquestionably astounding from an animal care and control viewpoint,” said Robert Leinberger, Assistant Supervisor of Chesterfield Country Animal Control. “Finding homes for pets is a constant challenge for area shelters and MRPS provides a unique means of doing so.”
