Hit and run fugitive found in nursing home

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Chesterfield family has some much needed closure tonight. John Quincy Allen, who was convicted of hitting and killing their loved one, has been on the run for two years. But now, this fugitive has finally been found in a nursing home and with serious health issues.

The family of the victim, Phyllis Darnell, calls this ending, bittersweet. Friday morning, they told us they're at least happy to finally know John Allen has been found.

We first brought you this story in the summer of 2007. A mug shot of John Quincy Allen aired on NBC12 soon after police charged him of "felony hit and run".

Phyllis Darnell was on her hospital bed at the time. We spoke with her daughter Bonni from inside the hospital room.

"She said she looked both ways before she stepped out and all of a sudden a car came from nowhere and just hit her," said Bonni.

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -- An ATF and K9 Chesterfield Fire and EMS team is retiring together today in the county. We take a look back at all the changes and justice this team brought to the area.

Lt. Rollston and his ATF dog, Hero, are spending the last few hours together on the job. But, it does not mean they are saying goodbye forever.

Hero and Lt. . Bobby Rollston are inseparable. Literally. Twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the two are together.

"Just that bond is built by being together and working with your K9. It's as strong of a bond as you can build," says Lt. Rollston.

They even train for two hours everyday and they go to work together, whether it's checking out a big fire like the one in Chesterfield from earlier this month, or some other call.
