Chesterfield teenager arrested in Pennsylvania

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A Chesterfield teenager has been arrested in Pennsylvania after police say he tried to shoot another man back in February.

19-year-old Anthony Holmes moved to Pennsylvania after the incident. He even enrolled in a Pennsylvania high school before his arrest.

Holmes is sitting in a Pennsylvania jail tonight, facing a variety of charges ranging from assault and battery to use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

This all started back in February when Holmes was attending a Super Bowl party along the 2800 block of Brampton Way in Chesterfield County. Police say another man at the party offended his own girlfriend and then got into a fight with Holmes that eventually spilled out onto the street.

That fight eventually spilled over to Cogbill Road and that's when police say Holmes opened fire. No one was hurt during the shooting. Police say the victim was then assaulted outside a Shell station on Cogbill Road.

Local yoga class bends to help homeless pets

Local yoga class bends to help homeless pets

A yoga studio took it upon itself on Friday to host a benefit class for a local animal shelter, Richmond Animal League (RAL).

The yoga class, led by Linda McDorman at Solid Ground Yoga, raised $200 and collected various needed supplies, such as pet food, toys, and other animal necessities for RAL.

“I just really appreciate what they do and wanted to do something that would benefit them; give them a little help,” said McDorman.

McDorman decided on RAL because she has several friends who have adopted from or volunteer with the shelter.  She rescued her current pets and says she likes that RAL is a “no-kill” organization focusing on finding homes for animals.

Kickers U12 girls elite crowned State Cup champs

The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the U12 Girls Elite claimed the 2011 State Cup Championship Sunday with an emphatic 10-2 victory over Ashburn Arsenal at Ukrop Park.  With head coach Mike Burke at the helm, the girls advanced to the final Sunday after blanking the Suffolk Explosion, 7-0, on Saturday.  The Kickers will now compete in the US Youth Soccer Region 1 Championship tournament July 1-5 in Lancaster, PA.

"Attractive soccer prevailed this past weekend,” commented Burke.  “The girls played some exceptional soccer, emphasizing the Kickers philosophy that if you can control the ball, you can control the score.  The girls proved that you can still win competitive games by playing beautiful soccer.”

The Kickers girls took the lead 25 seconds into the showcase game when Riley Cook connected on a well-placed through ball from Laurel Ness.  After a surprise equalizer five minutes later, Ness launched a 20-yard rocket into the far ri

Chesterfield store clerk shot during attempted robbery

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A gunman opens fire on a Chesterfield convenience store clerk during an attempted robbery. The clerk survived! But the shooter is still on the streets.

Take a look at these surveillance pictures from The Market Place on Jeff Davis Highway. Regulars don't recognize the guy, but will keep an eye out.

The store hasn't been open since the shooting Sunday night. Regulars said they won't be surprised if it closes for good.

One after another, customers swung into The Market Place parking lot, only to have to turn around and leave. Jerry Taylor frequently stops by to check on the clerks. Only on this day, he was met with metal barriers.

Wandering toddler leads to mother's arrest on unrelated charge

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – A close call for a Chesterfield toddler, found wandering alone Monday morning near a busy roadway.

The boy was discovered near Meadowdale Boulevard, which runs through the Regency Lake Apartments. Not long after, the boy's mother was placed in handcuffs. So far, the charge is unrelated to the wandering child, but police say that case is still developing.

In handcuffs, this woman walked out of the leasing office into the back of a county police car. Police wanted to know why -just hours earlier- her two year old son was found wandering near this busy boulevard, where Reggie Hicks lives.

"I think it's awful. Two year olds shouldn't be out here by theyself anyway," Hicks said, after reporters told him about the news.
